real talk: the two awards I deeply desire are the Stephen Leacock Medal For Humour and the Order of Canada. I'm never gonna win the Leacock medal (I write the wrong kind of stuff), but one time a book where I was thanked in the acknowledgements was shortlisted. Thisclose.

I can’t help but think today about how many young people were savaged on social media, branded as anti-semites and abandoned by their schools for daring to call for a ceasefire. I remember saying that it was the first time I can remember that calling for ceasefire was regarded as a hostile demand.

The wounded knee thing is really Trumpism distilled to its essence. It’s not enough to be able crush people who can’t fully defend themselves, it’s not enough to actually crush them, you also have to love and admire those who do the crushing otherwise the Trumpists’ delicate feelings are injured
