The most prominent AfD leaders are West Germans. One thing I did find curious is that I have something in common with a lot of the AfD leadership. A lot of them are descendants of "Vertriebenendeutsche". Germans who lived in Pomerania and East Prussia before the war.

I think the most revealing thing regarding the current political situation in Germany right now, is that while the AfD is the most popular party in polls, its leaders are completely despised by the wider public, even by AfD voters. While the SPD's Pistorius is the most popular German politician.

In conversations I had with AfD voters, they don't care about Russia. The AfD leaders support Russia, the voters don't care. They mainly talk about immigration and a nostalgia for the "great 1990s". Which is weird, because the 1990s sucked in Germany. Germany was the sick man of Europe back then.
