Geoffrey Litt just proposed a new analogy for working with AI coding tools that I really like: you are the surgeon, staying in command and doing the most challenging work - the AI tools are your support team and surgical assistants

A quote from Geoffrey Litt
A lot of people say AI will make us all "managers" or "editors"...but I think this is a dangerously incomplete view! Personally, I'm trying to code like a surgeon. A …

Most of the power authoritarians have is freely given. We should not comply with them in advance. Trump is far weaker than he looks. So is the GOP. We should draw them out, drain them at every opportunity, and fight for people’s wellbeing at every turn. We have been sent here to fight for people.

On this July 4th it's important to remember that countries are arbitrary lines on a map and being proud of being born on one side or the other of an imaginary line is silly.

Personal tech can save you. Airvalent popped during the night where I’m staying: realized while I’d opened the windows, hadn’t noticed that the storm windows were still down so no air coming in 🤦 Got up and opened windows for real

I think…there are many kinds of readers and modes of communication that work for even same people at different times or on different topics. I think we need more than one kind of comms in an ecosystem, including gen and specialist reporting, gen and specialist explainers, and many kinds of advocacy.

I actually have dramatic differences with AOC on some ideological things. But she is enormously studious, loves being informed on the things in front of her, is smart as shit, and – in a properly working system – is not a dictator like the poison of Trump people deluded themselves into. She's it.

Here’s a less diplomatic article about how we have gutted state capacity at CISA, FBI, State, and in the IC to soothe the hurt feelings of the 2020 election loser, who responded to his loss by spinning up a massive alternate reality that we are now beholden to.

This is a very well-argued and extremely diplomatic article that lays out the case for why CISA matters. It should be shared widely. I say “diplomatic” because it doesn’t spend much time highlighting *why* this gutting is happening, but rather focuses in on what the cost will be in a cyber attack.

Omelas is actually just one point on an n-dimensional space of different utopias sustained by various forms and degrees of wretchedness. Somewhere in there is a full utopia with 0 wretched kids, but the trick is knowing which of infinitely many directions to walk away from Omelas in.

I want to like Murderbot on AppleTV. A lot of the right ingredients, but it’s just not doing it for me. I had such high expectations because of the amazing source material. Doesn’t help that episodes are less than 20 minutes which basically gives characters enough time to cross a room.

Main character energy is OUT, this summer we’re bringing NPC energy. We’re posted up at the bar dropping lore and suggesting side quests. We’re leaning casually near a locked door and saying “I don’t think you have the key for that” when someone tries the handle. We’re staring at a tree.

Ok also AOC and Elon Musk are not in a “tit-for-tat feud.” AOC is a duly elected member of Congress who operates under an oath to our constitution and Elon Musk is an unelected Nazi billionaire whose wealth makes him think he’s above the law and empowered to illegally torch our government.
