Feels like something cracked today in the transatlantic alliance. Europeans have been swallowing their pride, bitting their tongues, and bending the knee. That strategy may have bought them time but it has now clearly failed. It also had a major cost - it has made the WH think Europe will cave. 1/

Thinking about (good) Poetry and how radical an act reading it is in our culture now. Reading it slowly, going over lines, analysing it, exploring meaning and context. And the importance of the curation of it, amidst swathes of frankly appalling rubbish, from both humans and now AI.

Ok, so militarily, USA wins out, but if Europe had any sense, it would now maximise its soft power with economic boycotts, a strong investment in cultural hegemony ( Rule of Law, Democracy, Cultural Depth and Business Acumen) and opposition to Autocracy.

There's something mesmerising about big chunks of lumpy old rock. The delightfully named Dew Bottoms, near the equally interesting sounding Hawkswick Clowder, Upper Wharfedale in the Yorkshire Dales.

Another pearl from my daughter today. 'Dad, our house is beginning to look shabby compared to the other ones on the street, look at that big stain there. I'll get up and paint it if you like.'

Ugh, more respiratory issues. Enlivened somewhat by 3 things. A sign at a lamppost advertising the wares of a Mole Catcher. Eh? Then my Daughter commenting on a car which she said 'had nostrils', just after noting that it would easy to steal people's shopping. Just random moments, but lovely.

The Venus of Brassempouy (or Lady of Brassempouy) is one of the earliest representations of the human face. It was sculpted in mammoth ivory about 25,000 years ago. It was discovered in a cave at Brassempouy, France in 1892.
