This huge old beech was uprooted in a storm a couple of years ago. The remaining trunk looks like an enormous white whale. The council moved the root system back into place, and today I was delighted to see Mini Groot growing away.

This week saw an excellent talk on Moonlit monuments by Carolyn Kennett for #Cornwall Archaeological Society (CAS) about the role moonlight might have played in their materials and use. A few days ago I had two separate opinions given to me about this one which is waiting for some colour. 1) “Ooh it looks like finely woven thread” 2) “It looks all scratchy like it’s from some horror film but in a nice way” I can live with both of those!

Happy birthday to one of the best frontmen of all time, Lux Interior of The Cramps. Lux gets a lot of love for his wild man stage antics, but not enough credit for being a great lyricist, able to weave references to car culture, B movies, and Surrealist art into so many of The Cramps' songs.

'Rusty Stream and White Pebbles,' was painted in the late autumn of 1921, a year after Félix Vallotton chose to spend his winter months in Cagnes. Used to the low, grey skies of Normandy, he was struck by the brilliance of the light in this part of France.
