The EU has banned these since 1989 due to potential health risks, such as links to cancer and hormonal imbalances, restricting most American beef imports unless certified hormone-free.

A free trade deal with the US will entail a flood of food-based products banned in the EU, many of which are not fit for human consumption, and which also contravene the EU's environmental regulations.
