Eastern Red-Legged Thrushes are found in Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, and Dominica. When defending territory, females were observed being more aggressive towards intruders. Males chase each other, often crashing mid-air and continuing to fight on the ground. birdsoftheworld.org/bow/species/relthr3

Though the Black-eared Catbird of New Guinea and Australia is classified as a bowerbird (Ptilonorhynchidae), males do not construct courtship bowers. Pairs are monogamous as well, further separating this species and others in its genus from other bowerbirds. birdsoftheworld.org/bow/species/bkecat4

Lilacine Amazon is endemic to Ecuador and is Critically Endangered with population estimates of less than 2,500. As forests are cleared for crop plantations, wood extraction, and urban expansion, this parrot’s suitable habitat is rapidly disappearing. birdsoftheworld.org/bow/species/relpar9

In 2025, the Red Grouse was (finally) elevated to species status via AviList. Heather provides essential cover and predominates the diet of this bird year-round, sometimes entirely. As a result, its distribution is closely tied to managed heather moorlands in Britain and Ireland.

Critically endangered, the Antioquia Brushfinch is range-restricted to the northern Central Andes in Colombia. In 1971, this small bird was considered extinct but was thankfully rediscovered in 2018. As its name suggests, the Pygmy Palm Swift prefers to nest between palm fronds. The nest itself is primarily constructed of the feathers of other birds, and the swift attaches it to palm fronds using its saliva. Click here to learn more: birdsoftheworld.org/bow/species/pygswi1

Twice a year, Ochre-naped Ground-Tyrants migrate between their nonbreeding range in the Central Andes and their breeding range in the Southern Andes. This relatively long-distance migration takes them as far south as Tierra del Fuego from October to February. birdsoftheworld.org/bow/species/ongtyr1

The Taiwanese "烏面抐桮" and Korean "저어새" names for Black-faced Spoonbill describe the common behavior of foraging flocks, when in unison they sweep their bills from side-to-side underwater searching for fish or shrimp. Male Cape Weavers weave an intricate kidney-shaped nest over 3-7 days. When a female accepts a male, she lines the interior with fine plant material or feathers. Check out the BOW species account for sequential photos outlining this intimate process. birdsoftheworld.org/bow/species/capwea1
