1) Went to see The Mummy in theaters when it came out. I was 9 years old. Needless to say, I have never seen most of The Mummy. 2) While road tripping across the country for college, my sibling and I went to see GI Joe in Amarillo, Texas. Theater was empty, so we just MSTK3k'd it up the whole time.

As a rule of thumb, I'm inherently distrustful of any take that presupposes one specific thing that art is "for". Art need not justify its existence, its existence is its justification.

I 100% agree with Jacob here, and I'm admittedly pulling this slightly out of its intended context, but I'd like to spin off into a related but somewhat contradictory point that's also really important: It's cool and good for artists to want to get paid for their work. Art is a form of labor.
