I've decided to be brutally honest with these recruiters who reach out to me with opportunities that have insultingly low rates. Perhaps if I was in my 20s, living in a shared low-cost apartment, and just starting out in SEO I would consider it. Calibrate your expectations, recruiters.

Having an SEO-aware team is super valuable. A development lead recently pointed out that, while we require the alt text field to be populated when an image is added, our system hasn't been using it on certain pages. Train your teams in what to look for, and you'll increase your efficacy tenfold.

Spend your time with companies that both want work done and budget for that work. Too many companies (and their leaders) want the accomplishment without the investment. I earn less than I did at my previous employer, but I get to actually get stuff done, and I feel better every day because of it.

Any of my Schema-skilled peers wanna chime in? Does the number of valid schema on your site match the number of indexed pages that contain that schema? I have one site with 85 job posting pages that are indexed, but GSC is only reporting 56 valid schema (and zero invalid). Any thoughts on why?

A fun reminder to in-house SEOs: You don't have to have an explicit change to an SEO element in order for it to be affected by a development release. Regularly check your canonicals, sitemaps, page rendering, etc.. There's nothing like a pre-holiday surprise gift. Weeeeee!

It's annoying that Google Search Console blasts everyone with access to an account with emails that raise alarms about thousands of pages not being indexed. It turns out that they're parameterized URLs that have canonicals that don't have parameters. (Ergo, they're working as expected.)

TIL: Routinely check your Schema implementation, especially if you're using content injected by an API to populate the fields. Validate that no HTML markup has been added within the Schema, because that'll invalidate your Schema markup.

Okay. This is the kind of crap I was talking about in my previous post. Roughly $25 per hour for a SENIOR SEO Specialist role. Are you f#ck1ing kidding me? I was making that in 2008 as a low level SEO Copywriter, and this role requires 5-10 years of experience. You companies have lost your minds.

While I am working a contract, I keep my eyes open for any FTE SEO Product Management roles. It's really interesting to see the pay rates for anything related to SEO stay quite low; whereas generic product management roles are booming.
