I think I'm going to put "nuanced", "morally gray", "realistic" and "not black and white" on top of a high shelf until the game industry realizes that these are not words that can supersede unpacking your own ideology. You actually need to define what those words mean *to you*.

Though also: people will often wildly overestimate who can genuinely provide good editing skills (as gamedev as a whole often wildly overestimates who has the skillset to do proper game writing), and the way editing may be implemented can *also* mean doing another iteration pass instead of polishing

game writers are asked to write, rewrite and revise in short periods of time has a huge impact on quality. Ask most experienced game writers and they will tell you that, despite <x> years of development, the script that ships is, far too often, a first draft. 2/9

One issue generally overlooked in the whole screenwriter vs gamewriter, discussion is time. Beyond anything to do with training, ability, style etc is the amount of time screenwriters get to invest in a script. Whilst there are time pressures on any writer, the vast amounts of script that- 1/9

As a writer also in a field with a very high exec/top brass presence in the creative process, I can guarantee you that in 99% of cases, if the writing feels like you're repetitively being spoon fed plot and exposition, it's a directive from on high and not what the writer would do if left alone.

I know it's fun to complain about ideaguys but I think it's also worth having a think about what constitutes a good idea, and how to get there. How to balance convention versus originality. How to 'onboard' people onto your more out there ideas. How a good idea translates into a good pitch. Sure--

I get writing tests, it's very important to make sure you share an aesthetic connection with your future game writer --but I think the opposite should also be implemented, where writers get to poke at whether their future collaborators understand things like themes, authorial intent and subjectivity

A lot of good things in here: free (no payments) NSFW content can go back up; there's a pathway laid down for some paid NSFW content to come back, and positive statements from Stripe that indicate pressure campaigns are working. All really positive. So happy to see.
