I feel exactly the same way about all of the scientists who were RIF’d or had their funding denied. The ripple effects are enormous and will undermine public health for decades to come. It will take a beat for the general public to see it, but it’s coming.

None of these things is enough, and some are already laws that have been ignored. I fail to see how any of these would have prevented the deaths in Minneapolis last week, or how they change any conditions for people who have been detained.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.” That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

It's not quite the most pressing issue at the moment, but the American people absolutely have a right to know the names of the federal officials who shot and killed a man peacefully protesting, who was on his knees, prone in the street when they shot him in the back.

As I watch the Sunday show clips (many thanks @atrupar.com) I would love for journalists to ask these people to define the terms they use. Officers are acting humanely? Define humanely. These are agitators? Explain when you from an agitator to a criminal. Force them to defend their position.

Saying there must be trials isn't just an emotive aspiration. Congress can: - Create a new court (complying w/ 6A jury vicinage) - Give it jurisdiction over defined category of crimes - Also create dedicated prosecutors for the same - Strip SCOTUS of appellate jurisdiction It can be done.

Not watching the video felt like an exercise in privilege, so I viewed it. It is more of an execution. The man is beaten by multiple ICE agents, he is on the ground, and then one of the agents shots him. How many more people need to die at the hands of federal thugs for Congress to act?

There are murder-squads executing people on the streets of America right now with the full support of the federal government. How do we make it stop? People are protesting in huge numbers and it’s not making an impact. I despair at what comes next when people finally reach a breaking point.

We had 50K people downtown yesterday, no ICE and zero incidents. ICE is the fucking problem.
