A better point is that the median doesn't tell you that much about the distribution. This chart is much more useful for that. But it just confirms my original point (most people have seen income growth, albeit slow by historical standards, while severe deprivation has worsened).

Also true in the UK. Obviously there's a lot going on underneath this (pensioners vs working age, renters vs owner occupiers, increased severe deprivation, differential inflation) but most/"average" households have seen real income growth (and inequality has not increased).
