I feel like we haven’t fully reckoned with the with the implications of the reality that in the past generation, many have lost the ability to concentrate long enough to read a book.

I specced out a new PC in May 2025, and jotted down all the prices. (Didn't buy it.) At the time, 64GB of memory was £91. Now, the same memory is going for £505. A 2TB SSD was £98. Now, the same SSD would cost me £169. My hypothetical £900 May 2025 build would come to over £1,500 today. Crazy!

People (Americans?) often criticize people who interrupt while someone else is speaking. But interruptions are used within the system of turn-taking, and their use is a social norm that varies across cultures. Hence the criticism may be a subtle form of discrimination.

the shitstorm that’s already brewing because of Bari’s decision to spike this story is going to end up being vastly more damaging to her and to the admin than allowing the story to air would have been she’s an evil propagandist hack but she is also very bad at doing it in a way that isn’t hamfisted

It's because she doesn't know how to be the head of CBS News. Just no clue what a person in this role does. Similar to how Pete Hegseth and Sean Duffy don't know how to be cabinet secretaries. A hallmark of this movement is people being out of their depth. It says, "expertise is unnecessary."

Financial literacy for someone that makes a billion dollars a year, is things like, "How to buy a sports team," and "What is a Super PAC." If you're neither a billionaire, nor in poverty, financial literacy means things like "What is a 401k, and what is an FSA?" And "What is a 1031 exchange?"
