All character animations in Mega Knockdown are overrides on top of a 'base layer' populated with placeholder Jerma greenscreen sprites. I can't remove these "Load Bearing Jermas" without rebuilding my entire animation system.

GIMP has always been rough, but I actually used it recently and it's actually not that bad. It has, like, an actual UI now. Wouldn't pick it over anything else or recommend it, but it's a lot more usable than the last time I tried it
