With everything, I’d almost forgotten to feel angry and sad about when I was pregnant and in pain and under constant scrutiny and judgement. Got me! Back to being angry and sad about that, too! Add it to the list! (Neurodivergence is beautiful and pregnant people can take acetaminophen, ya dopes!)

If you’re curious, top is raspberry, middle is wineberry— smaller, less tart, shinier and not at all fuzzy—and bottom is a blackcap. Eat em all up yum!

I come out to my mam’s house in the Hudson Valley (fruit paradise) every summer for 5 weeks (fruit time) and spend it being in nature and my farmy homeland (acquiring and processing fruit). This sees me through my pathetically fruitless winters.

Mam’s neighbor spotted me crouching in the wineberry bush and told me to come over and take some of her abundance of golden plums and some beets off her hands. This is the best time and place to be a fruit raccoon.

I saw the wineberry bush and pulled my car over so fast that my mom thought I’d seen another turtle.

With our 24 lbs of black cherries, mom and I have made: dried cherries, popsicles, juice, frozen yogurt, and (the prettiest, I think) sorbet. Still to come: pate de fruit, fruit leather and curd!

Here’s a painting I did of my kid, which came out with them looking much older than they are in real life, despite working with a photo for reference. I think because I was in my mom-feels about them growing up fast during their birthday week when I painted it. So this is my 9yr old as a 13yr old.
