I finished the Lost Tales Part 2 version of The Fall of Gondolin yesterday, and I keep thinking about it. Among other things, I'm starting to get what the big deal is about Glorfindel, and I have a lot of sad Idril and Turgon headcanons.

I think it's interesting that so many folks view any close or intense relationship between fictional characters where strong feelings are dramatized - either positive or negative - as inherently romantic. Head canons are cool, but ascribing intent to creators is when it can get uncomfortable.
