Also, a reminder that the antidote to hopelessness is community. Join a community action or rapid response group. If there isn't one where you live, start one. Get to know your neighbors and be there for them. Find your people and hold on tight to one another.

I do think it should be a priority of WA to consolidate conurbation suburban cities and special districts within UGAs into sizable governments. Independent local gov serving 6k, 3k, 20k, etc people is very inefficient and leads to nonsense patchworks of arbitrary disparities

Seattle used to fund so much transit service until covid (and jenny durkan) In 2019, almost 75% of the city lived within walking distance of a bus every 10 mins or better. Today, it's only like 50%! Time to get the buses running again!

Katie Wilson elected Seattle’s next mayor
Wilson took a 1,976-vote lead over Bruce Harrell. With a maximum of 1,320 ballots remaining, it is mathematically impossible for Harrell to catch up.

To restore public trust, Seattle city government needs a renewed commitment to transparency
From data.seattle.gov. A great city like Seattle should never have anything to hide from its people. That's why one of the best things city government can do to earn the public's trust is to act with transparency and make public information as freely accessible as possible. Doing so is also a way to support and encourage more independent journalism by providing all news outlets with equal access to public information.

The thing about columns like Westneat's: they treat the idea of Seattle having a middle-of-the-road mayor who just muddles along and resists the idea of bold transformation as the city's natural resting state. Anytime voters express interest in changing that, it's the fault of an external force.

Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell has made 39 official announcements in the two months leading up to next week's election, compared to 21 for the same period last year. This is not considered a use of city resources for campaigning despite the very obvious ramp-up just before the election.

I don't understand why U.S. reporters so regularly seem to let politicians get away with 'I haven't seen that' about stuff a) they obviously know and b) is directly relevant to their job. Did they sign some kind of agreement never to ask a follow-up question?
