Being part of the SM will bring +3-4% GDP to UK. Some claim 8%. This is truly massive, and there is no practical government measure or programme that yields this type of growth (or even 1/10 of of that).

The massive decline in the use of physical currency has probably made the pound much less symbolically important to younger generations. It's just numbers on a screen now, and when one of those numbers is the commission for paying in a different currency, the benefits of the euro become clearer.

This is a significant moment for the UK, reported in Bloomberg: Italy's GDP per head has caught the UK. As the article points out, this is a result of inflation, low productivity and low-skilled migration, among other things. But underlying it all is Brexit. 1
