I agree with this. When activists barricaded the Fed Building, ICE didn't return to immigration court for days When they suddenly required people to check in on a weekend, the community showed up. They only took appointments for a few hours then didn't show up at all the next day They're cowards

January 26th: Olympia. Me, you and all of our friends are going to show up and tell Washington corporate bootlickers that we’ve had enough of their austerity BS. January 26th is progressive revenue Lobby Day. Tell them to tax the rich and fund social programs in WA.

When Valancy responds with a generic answer about ensuring financial stability, ask them how much they sustained in net operating losses. According to this financial summary submitted with the 2019 contract renewal, they have been and expected to generate a profit. $2.1 million in profit 2025

Excellent article, spot on. The public does not want austerity. They've made it really clear they want to tax the rich to support public services.

🚨Bill Alert 🚨 I just dropped HB 2098, Affordable College for All. This bill would make higher education accessible to all working and middle class families in Washington State by removing an artificial cap the biggest tech companies put on their own tax rates:

Went looking for the new contact between the City of Seattle and Seattle Monorail Services since the last contact was set to expire 2024. In 2019, when they added the Monorail to the Orca card to system, they also extended the contract to 2034.

I need a sanity check here. Seattle Monorail Services signed a 10-year contract with the City in 2014. SMS is currently owned by Tom Albro. Tom Albro was elected to the Port of Seattle Commission in 2010 until 2017. What in the corrupt fuck is this

The Monorail is owned by the City but outsources its operation to Seattle Monorail Services FOR A PROFIT, which is split evenly between SMS and the City. King County Metro should take back control of the Monorail instead of allowing this money grab.

I was one of the people who fought hard for the monorail to even accept an ORCA card. More recently, Katie Wilson and I worked to standardize their fares and charge the same as the buses. I think the best option is to go back to having the county run the monorail instead of fighting these battles.

the fact that amtrak cascades hit another ridership record in FY25 despite shutting down for two weeks and spending half the year running smaller trains with higher prices bc of the horizon recall is another sign that the demand for rail in the pnw is genuinely insatiable

This is the reason why outgoing mayor Brucey hated me in our endorsement interviews for 2 cycles. If you strut around talking about how you stand up to corporations, then you should be able to handle a question about why you, as council president, completely crumbled at the slightest pressure.

I don't think "I grew up poor" (i.e. working-class) means you automatically understand what it's like to be a young or not-so-young renter in a city where houses cost a million dollars and rent never stops going up and up. This is why people liked Katie Wilson—she knows what it's like to live here.

All of this is in service of calling it "offensive" to suggest he doesn't understand what it's like to be, say, 35 and unable to afford a one-bedroom apartment in Seattle. Of course it's not offensive, and it has always been incredibly weird (and defensive) that he responds this way.

Still watching Mayor Bruce Harrell's speech in segments. The way he gets mad (and always has) when anyone asks whether he understands how hard it is for regular people to afford to live here is so telling.

OK, "misunderstanding" is the wrong word here. There's a purposeful disinformation campaign from right wingers in WA to sow doubt about our elections. I honestly can't believe
@mayorofseattle.bsky.social
Harrell would say something like this, especially after the good stuff he said prior.

Exactly this. Katie Wilson has done more for the city of Seattle on policy than Bruce Harrell has 12 years on city council and 4 years as mayor. It was her JumpStart Tax proposal that saved Harrell’s budget this year.
