These things are not comparable, IMO. It's like having a PC with 4Gb of RAM running Unity, and complaining it's super show, and someone pointing out they programmed with punctured cards. Technology changed the game, games now are expected to be delivered faster, and some level editora are bad.

Not only isometric Action-RPGs existed long before Diablo 1, there's one from 1995 with an evil Butcher that says "fresh meat" and attacks you. Unfortunately this all gets buried because David Brevik goes around telling everyone that he invented Action-RPGs :P

This is a very uncomfortable fact in the industry, and so many examples are blatant in that sense. From genres being reduced to a single title (which nobody could wage a ~war against this ~shadow), to studios suing anyone that use a single name in their titles (and that's a whole another ~saga).
