Just finished reading Running Close to the Wind by @alexandrarowland.bsky.social and wow I loved it so much. Such a joy to read! So many lovable yet flawed characters (my favorite). The chaos! The eels! The cake!

I am surrounded by people who are outsourcing their own thinking to ChatGPT and they are quickly and obviously becoming dependent on it for even the most banal tasks. Once again, the "figuring it out" is the important part. Yes, you can use a crane to lift weights but you will not get stronger

Every time I see someone label a book without sexual content as “clean” I have to fight the urge to go into a frothing pedantic rage. No I don’t care if that sort of book is your preference, you don’t get to label everything else as dirty by extension and not catch shit from me for it.

In libraries, we call this vocational awe. The idea that if you are invested in your calling, you should accept low wages/inhumane conditions is a nasty little trick of capitalism. I’m an author, I’m hungry, I care deeply about my work, AND I deserve to be paid for it.

We love boat books; well, specifically, @alexandrarowland.bsky.social's Running Close to the Wind. A perfect combination of our running bit of disliking boat books and this being one of the funniest books we've ever read, we thought it perfect for April Fools' geeklyinc.com/bookling-run...

I still need to write this a real review, but this was my favourite read of 2024! It is SO funny and charming, I love the romance, the awfulness of the horrible little gremlin MC, the gardening, the questing, and especially the godly pantheon and surrounding religion. HIGHLY recommend. It's lovely.

Sharing because Running Close to the Wind is a chaotic horny pirate delight & everyone should read it. It has inspired my latest cross-stitch project in progress.
