I am speaking from many years of experience, as someone who hasn't burnt out and bailed when many others have. NEW: A Texas county medical examiner found that Geraldo Lunas Campos was choked to death by a guard while he was held in ICE custody earlier this month. Geraldo is the sixth person to die in ICE detention this year.

My take on the Jan 23 action in Minneapolis is that I don’t really care whether it’s a “true” general strike (we could argue about that all day). What DOES matter is that it’s a bold and necessary escalation, and local labor leaders are publicly encouraging workers to join in anti-ICE resistance

I understand recoiling in fear, tuning things out, or retreating — I fully get it, on an emotional level. But I can't imagine not fighting. I simply cannot fathom seeing these forces at work in our world, let alone in close proximity to me, and not saying "fuck that" and throwing down.

I’ve not been immune to this but there’s been a lot of stories going around that haven’t passed the smell test lately and just a gentle reminder (to myself too) that it helps to double check before sharing- maybe especially if there is confirmation bias possible

Pow Wow Grounds coffee shop, which regularly becomes a community hub when Minneapolis is in need, are still in need. People doing ICE watch/rapid response are using it to organize, rest, and refuel. Often for free when people donate food and coffee, for those who can't afford to buy from the shop

ICE and CBP already use drones for surveillance of protests (and of the border). This release suggests an expansion of that activity, but the militarized language also raises the question of whether drones that are armed with less-lethal or lethal munitions will be used.

Knowing that people are doing stuff, trying stuff, caring for their neighbors, does make me love Minneapolis more. @mskellymhayes.bsky.social and @dawnxianamoon.bsky.social said as much for Chicago, and it rings true here as well in the midst of everything. I’m fortunate to know about a portion.
