Playing cymbals with mallets, is this the gateway drug to playing GONGS????

I tried playing drums with a pair of soft felt mallets and holy shit I love it. Allows you to play so much softer with a lot more dynamics, the cymbals become soft and washy, but the snare and toms are still punchy.

Okay so weird mystery with the kick drum I'm putting together from parts. The shell I found was an old ludwig chrome jobber, someone drilled out to change over from the regular flip legs to the spurs that go into the drum, BUT they didn't drill all the way thru for one bolt on each side!
