Using feature flags to grant features to customers as a one-off (when they otherwise wouldn't have that feature because of plan limitations) is so handy. We put a @flippercloud.io check in the has_feature? method of our Account model. A+ would recommend.

I've dug into Thread#kill/#raise _alot_ over the last year, and what sticks out the most is that from what I can find, no other language still supports this, and many never did. It seems that because we have it, it's still used in various places (though much more judiciously these days)

@rosa.codes do solid queue recurring tasks have to be active when a schedule hits? For instance, if I am deploying code and solid queue is restarting during a recurring task window - would it be missed?

I'd be happy to work with ruby-core on Ractor APIs that actually improve their usability, I'd even sponsor their development. We need truly thread-safe data structures that can be shared. Expecting Ruby apps to remove global mutable state is not realistic.

If you read @byroot.bsky.social 's "What's the deal with Ractors?", and were bummed at how poorly they handled JSON parsing, then @jhawthorn.com has brightened your day! Frozen interned strings are now stored in a lock-free hash, making the Ractor example 2x faster than the single-threaded example!

TIL: In Ruby, there is a significant performance difference between calling `obj.my_method` vs calling `obj.send(:my_method)`. To be clear, "Significant" in this instance is more the realm of microbenchmarks, or very hot code path optimizations (hundreds of thousands/millions of calls). /🧵
