Pro tip: Include the git SHA in an HTML comment when deploying your app... it's super handy to know what is actually deployed in production, especially when you're looking at a side project that hasn't been deployed in months. :)

If you haven't taken a look at the Dashboards tab in your Honeybadger project yet, now is a great time to do it. Our new project overview dashboard combined with Insights automatic instrumentation makes it super simple to see your app's health at a glance.

Using feature flags to grant features to customers as a one-off (when they otherwise wouldn't have that feature because of plan limitations) is so handy. We put a @flippercloud.io check in the has_feature? method of our Account model. A+ would recommend.

Swapping out database servers without the clients event noticing makes me happy :)

The team that writes the code needs to deploy it and be on-call for it. Full stop. Any other setup is going to lead to resentment, unfixed or slow to fix issues. But what about SRE? You aren't Google, so don't copy what they do. They had a specific problem to solve which you don't have.

A first for me this morning… I just had a conference registration cancelled. I was looking forward to #GrafanaCon, but they apparently decided to cancel the ticket that I purchased. Incredible.

This was another update (like the EU stack) that was a long time coming, and a feature that I really wanted. With the launch of Insights Alarms we now have a platform that can help developers monitor all the things they care about in production, which makes me super happy!

I started wanting this many years ago, and we finally decided to make it happen last year. It was a multi-month project to get our Terraform configuration updated for a new region deployment, but I love how it turned out. Our US stack even got some improvements as a result of this work. :)

What Trump and the people aligned with him have done in the past several weeks — and especially last Friday — is despicable. For the first time in my life, I’m utterly embarrassed to be an American. I am devastated to see what we have become.

I helped a friend dockerize a 10-year-old Rails app for development this week. It took me about 8 hours to go from first clone to fully-working local environment. Is that fast or slow? I don't know, but the getting started portion of the README is a lot shorter now. :) P.S. traefik.me is handy

I have hoodies, shirts, and shoes from conferences I attended. Now I just need to find a conference that has pants swag to complete my look. 🙂

The struggle is real.

In the past few weeks I've started using the Windsurf editor, and despite my low expectations, it is actually pretty awesome. It has really sped up the development process for me, and now I feel like I'm moving slowly when I'm not using it. :)
