It's standard to say drivers' bad behavior needs to be addressed with better infrastructure, not enforcement. That's largely true. But. What infrastructure could allow pedestrians to pass but prevent this? More generally, can infrastructure alone make up for a driving culture of complete impunity?

I contacted #Halifax communications and the city WILL NOT be giving the $50,000 to the Davis Cup. “the event no longer delivers the tourism, economic and other benefits that would have been expected had it proceeded as originally planned.”

The city is spending $50,000 on what? There's no tourism draw for this. There's no local benefit to this. We shouldn't have committed this money in the first place but surely this is grounds for a refund.

Beware of any politician doing this. It’s a major red flag of the most cynical political opportunism, weaponization of lies & misinformation, and manipulation of some consultant’s idea of a “wedge issue.” It would waste public money, risk or even cost lives, weaken the city, make traffic worse, etc.

The second car we didn't know we needed. Kid transport isn't feasible with this particular style of bike, which restrains a lot of our trips, but has been a game changer for running errands solo, commuting to work & managing competing commitments. Those short trips add up.

I was on the bus for 30 min yesterday from SMU to Central library & as far as I could tell, heavy pedestrian traffic allowing 1 or 2 vehicles through each light cycle (+ too many cars) was the reason. Why pay $1000 a YEAR in taxes and user fees for safe and reliable transit and active transportation systems when you can pay $1000 a MONTH for a second car?

The municipality can no longer progress meaningful and impactful changes. They can try working with the Province, yet still be overridden at the final hurdle. What's left that's safe from political interference? Collect trash, plow and maintain roads and approve the police budget without question.

Funny that the driver is mentioned when they hit other cars. If vulnerable road users were hit, the headline would read, "multiple pedestrians/cyclists injured after collision with a vehicle".

I had a perfect Halifax Saturday & it cost me nothing: - Museum of Natural History Monsters of the Depths exhibit (NS Museum Pass my parents gifted) -Swim in the Commons Pool (free for everyone) -Northern Lights Lantern Festival (free community event, an absolute gem, protect at all costs)

Driving home from visiting my parents at 20km/h on a 110km/h highway due to traffic congestion with my son coughing on smoke from huge wildfires half a content away, my wife let's me know that the bike lane near our home will be delayed yet again for further study. I lose hope for the future.
