Everything @dadrummond.bsky.social makes is so wondrous. I especially treasure the occasional glimpses of his process, which help me remember that his cast metal trilobites don’t just gleam into existence without hours of patient work.

Cicada! My first 3D print and assembly of a model I started two weeks ago. Such a thrill to finally hold her! Pretty happy with this first version, where I'm just checking feel and proportions; fit and finish are rough. Next steps: details/textures, and assembly engineering (all on the inside).

One of my favorite artists on Bluesky. All of her work is so colorful and so CLEAN. Sharp, crisp lines are incredibly difficult to get from textiles!

One theory that was too obvious to mention in my earlier comic is that I MIGHT find my embroidery subpar not because of thread or needles, but because I suck at it and need more practice. 🙃 So, time to practice.

I enjoyed the comic enough that I decided to write an appendix for it, although it may be anticlimactic to explain exactly *what* got me into such a lather in the first place. This time I actually scanned the damn thing instead of taking lazy pictures on my phone.

I got frustrated working on projects today and sublimated it into comics. They’re very rough, but if I tried redrawing them that would be its own project, and just, No. 🚫 Hope you like them. 💕

When your projects involve a little bit of everything, it can be very hard to track progress. Progress in *what*? And is it the “right” kind of progress? I like to pretend that new notation systems will fix all my problems, and here’s my latest effort — feel free to adopt if it looks useful to you!

How about some REAL art for a change? This is from a preview of Kim Slate’s exhibit in the Antler Gallery, one of my very favorite galleries in PDX. I adore these little guys and wish I could have one on each shoulder, dispensing advice that I would unquestioningly follow.

This is now a crisis comms situation, guys, one that can't be solved by just "fixing it." You need to put out an apology for taking this long to address it, an explanation of why you made the underlying mistake that evidences significant reflection, and a description of how you're fixing THAT

In the year of 2023, “we didn’t stop users from putting slurs in their handle” is not a mistake, it is a MORTIFYING failure. It’s the internet equivalent of a commercial kitchen with no soap of any kind, anywhere. You just don’t DO that.

You know an author’s books are worth it when a reader carefully and lovingly photographs them against a fur backdrop, taking time to include some motifs like a small wooden rat and scented candle. (BTW I concur, these books are amazing and you will love them.)

I got all the July 4 grilling and lawn games out of the way this weekend, so I have the whole day at my disposal. I’m starting things off by drawing some notes about the wire wrapping experiments I showed you all earlier! I’ll take proper scans when I have more pages.
