A rare point I disagree with @katmabu.bsky.social on. We have such a commission in Virginia now. Not ideal. Democrats owe it to state voters who give them majorities to redistrict the GOP into irrelevance. The GOP is sure as shit going to do so given the chance (and has been for years, see: NC)
