Incredible work by @thebirdunion.bsky.social, which persevered through an incredibly dirty fight with Audubon's management to deliver the organization's first ever unionized contracts. As a former Audubon contributor, I'm very, very proud of them.

We are proud to announce that our membership voted UNANIMOUSLY to ratify a three-year contract, our union’s first! More details to follow. We’re extremely grateful for all of the support you’ve shown us throughout the last 2.5 years of bargaining and escalations.

We are so grateful to our many community allies for your support of our essential conservation work and our union. We are calling off the strike scheduled for September 10-12th.

NEWS: After more than 2.5 years of bargaining and mounting a nationwide strike threat, we have come to a tentative agreement with Audubon management. The 3 year deal is a direct result of the dedication and hard work of our membership. We will proceed with a ratification vote.

It has been really, deeply sad to watch the Audubon organization — which I’ve done work for in the past, and had some real respect for — go to such despicable lengths to stop its employees from unionizing. They could have decided to make a deal at any point. Instead they decided to go to war.

It’s been nearly 4 months since Audubon Society CEO Elizabeth Gray decided to withhold annual pay increases for Bird Union members. These are increases we *already earned* through our work the year prior. Another shameless attempt to union bust after 25 MONTHS of bargaining.

Today, the talented, UNIONIZED staff of Audubon magazine is at the National Magazine Awards after being nominated for the *sixth* year. They consistently produce quality journalism and—along w/the rest of us—deserve a fair contract. Don’t you agree, Dr. Elizabeth Gray?

The Audubon Society was one of our favorite clients ever because of the great people we worked with. It is a bummer how they are treating the workers who do so much for the birds and the environment.

Bird Union members earned our annual pay increases through our labor this past year. Audubon CEO Elizabeth Gray’s decision to yank these away (during the holidays no less) is a retaliatory and shameful attempt to bust the union while we negotiate our first contract.

The latest in Audubon CEO Dr. Elizabeth Gray’s efforts to bust the Bird Union is a decision to withhold annual pay raises from all union members. These are wages our members have *already earned* thru our labor. Money we counted on. Announcing this during the holidays just adds insult to injury.
