Larry Summers has an 8 figure net worth. He doesn't *have* to do anything. He doesn't need a job in politics or at a university to pay the rent. Just let him do whatever he wants on his $400K-1.2MM investment income.

According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the median prison term is 3.7 for negligent manslaughter and 7.0 for non-negligent manslaughter, so this is within norms.

I think if you have to choose between Naylor and Polanco, you choose Naylor. Younger, better baserunning, less of a fluke year on offense. He was a plus defender for the first time in his career, but IDK if that will stick.

Fascinating to compare analysis and messaging. WMATA publicly quantifying the efficiencies they want, meanwhile the MTA won’t even publicly quantify the inefficiencies they don’t want. Is it because the MTA is afraid of its shadow politically? Or do they not even know their numbers?

The text-based + limited video web raised the value of reference and instructional content and *gave a larger group of people a financial incentive to provide it than ever before*, and all of that is slowly shrinking.

Left yimbys have to be unified in not allowing higher MHA! There will be a lot of pressure on Wilson to raise it and that would be a disaster for market rate housing in our city.

Certainly in civil rights, the (correct!) presumption was every government employee between your and the supreme Court did not want to do you any favors. A similar mindset existed in environmental law. We live in a different world and we probably need procedures that reflect it.

There's lots of ways into this, but if you believe Sam Altman is full of shit when he predicts super intelligence by 2030, you should also believe he's full of shit when he states AI will consume 250 GW by 2033. It's about as meaningful as saying we'll colonize Mars.

The world, like the Mandelbrot set, is not a fractal, but something much more complex. (Will thread if there's popular demand.)

1. By popular demand, 🧵 on the Mandelbrot set, fractals, and some analogies outside math. The tl;dr version is that the Mandelbrot set isn't fractal but quasi-fractal and that makes it considerably more complex.

The most on-brand and accessible "aggressive" or quick fix Mayor Wilson could do, is to unblock key bus route bottlenecks. Much of our bus lane network is effectively wasted because careless/selfish car drivers routinely queue up blocking bus lane turns every rush hour. Like here at Valley/Westlake
