I watched the Uncharted film today for some reason. Generally good preposterous fun but almost entirely ruined by Mark Wahlberg’s inability to conjure up more than one facial expression. Why he keeps getting cast in films is a complete mystery to me.

I saw a few great films over the weekend: Violent Night. Maybe my favourite of the “Die Hard but in a…” films. So much fun. Wake Up Dead Man. I could happily have Rian Johnson make these films til the end of time. Lilo & Stitch (original). Never seen it until now. Absolutely loved it.

I watched Violent Night yesterday. It feels like a response to all the Grinches who like to complain “Die Hard isn’t a Christmas film!” “OK, we’ll make Die Hard but John Maclane is literally Santa Claus.” Honestly one of the most purely entertaining films I’ve seen in years. 😄

I think I like the 2nd episode of The War Between The Land & The Sea better than the 1st. I feel like my brain has got more of a handle on what RTD is going for. There were moments where it felt like a 70s Pertwee environmental thriller, complete with scheming villains and Men From The Ministry.

I'm 50/50 on The War Between The Land & The Sea. Good moments but tonally all over the place. I honestly don't know if its serious or silly. The general seems to have got his accent from all those old film trailers that started with "IN A WORLD". The scene with the liquifying floor was cool.

I watched Once Upon A Time In Hollywood today. Not a bad film, certainly well-made but did it really need to be 3 hours? I’m happy to watch Lord Of The Rings for that time and not get bored, but not Tarantino. And the constant foot fetishising is just… not my thing.

There’s a particularly hilarious ad on for a men’s shampoo called GREY ATTACK with the tagline FIGHT FOR YOUR HAIR. GRRRRR!! MANLY MEN!! FIGHT!!! WAR!!! I’ve never once seen my grey hair as a problem. When I got my 1st grey hair in my 20s, I thought “Awesome! I’m going grey! How cool!” 😂😂😂

I love Muppet Christmas Carol as much as the next guy, but I personally think Treasure Island is the best #Muppets film. And Cabin Fever is the best Muppets song.

This time last year, I was walking with my wife round a Christmas market in a frosty park in Munich and this song played over the speakers. Probably the most Christmassy I've ever felt. 🎄

If anyone is in the Stratford area and fancies a fun, festive evening at the #RSC I totally recommend their current production of The BFG. Incredible stagecraft and puppetry and a fantastic cast. The changing sense of scale is so well done. Warm-hearted, cozy and very funny.

Watched Bladerunner again last night. Would have been so much better if they had gone with the original idea, that instead of origami unicorns, Edward James Olmos’ character had made balloon animals. “It’s too bad she won’t live; but then again SQUEEEK-SQUEEEK-SQUEEEEEEK-SQUEEEEK Who does?”
