Thereās an unedifying picture of US automotive. CEOs Farley and Filosa (not Barra though) meekly standing behind Trump while he spouts racist garbage after rolling back climate change regulations to allow them to carry on selling $80k 15mpg petrol pickups

45 years ago I made a pitch for the Director-General job. Didnāt get it ā mind you, I was only 13. But I did get a reply from Ian Trethowan, who was DG at the time. All these years later Iām proud to work for the BBC.

We lived in a pub when I was growing up and when I was 3 (50 years ago!) we had someone in to draw the pub for a business card. I sat next to him and watched him draw every line. I was transfixed and it was a huge inspiration for me. Iāve dreamt about owning that drawing for yearsā¦

That columnist reminds me of my idea for doing list features like "10 cars you've never heard of!" and filling it with Porsche 911s and Fiestas and Golfs and writing as if the author has only just discovered them. Or "Did you know the French made cars?", that kind of thing.

Rallye continues to show up every other car I've owned by sailing through another MOT. Windscreen has slowly been collecting stone chips and the tester has finally noticed, but none have turned into cracks. Car's still for sale, if you know anyone interested...

So GSF parts have come good this year, they have sponsored the racePanda, given us a butt-load of spares and paid for a Mission Motorsport beneficiary to race in the (blatantly/biased) best car ever. What a machine!

There can be no happy conclusion to Russiaās invasion of Ukraine, which involves š·šŗ keeping Crimea, and the port of Sevastopol. This is quite literally what this whole conflict is about. First MOT on our ID4 today, which threw up an interesting discussion about MOTing EVs, with the guy who does my tests. He's not happy about testing many EVs. The problem is how different and automated a lot of their systems are, which causes issues and extra risk for testers

What nationalisation satisfies, at least for people who don't just want to nationalise everything on ideological grounds, is a desire for retribution; for some sort of justice to be done, if we're now being asked to pay to clear the mess up.
