tldr; how does your field use white papers? do you have examples? I'm teaching a few classes on writing and they're based on topics in neuroscience and animal cognition. The first big assignment for students is a white paper and I'm hoping to give students an idea of how white papers can be used.

I would love (and am trying) to build a whole lab off of data reuse + modeling. This article pointed to some useful resources I hadn't heard of. I would also add that reuse can be for things far afield from what the data was originally collected for. Your data may have value you've never dreamt of!

I guess what's interesting to me here is that many biologists are totally allergic to anything that smacks of teleology and agency when framed as such, but their discourse is often saturated in these notions, and in a way that is intensely normative.

Very happy this is finally out 🎉. In this paper, we show that conf. reports are biased by a visual illusion, an asymmetrical base rate and a payoff scheme. Crucially, we show that only the visual illusion affects subj. experience, suggesting decision bias leaks onto confidence reports.

This week, I spoke with one of the Duolingo contractors impacted by its 'new' AI strategy, and they clarified that 1) it's not new. Duolingo has *already* fired an estimated 100 writers and translators. 2) they worked for months training an AI system that still makes egregious mistakes.
