birthright citizenship has never ever been enough, not during Redemption or Jim Crow, not when Asians remained racially ineligible to naturalize, not when trans people are stripped of equal protection

It doesn’t feel much like it but we get to decide what citizenship means, not them, we get to embrace our neighbors and afford each other dignity
