Donald Hill has a long read on the situation. He (and Tom Cooper) have both been very critical of Syrsky for a very long time.

A Matter of Choice
If Ukraine and Russia have the same weapons and fight in the same way, then it is logical that in a war of attrition the larger nation would eventually win, given enough time.

The
#EuropeanDefenceAgency
published defence spending data for 2025. The key takeaway?
#MemberStates
spend more each year, but still too little on
#collaborative
procurement, too little in
#Europe
and too little on R&D. Here are some numbers (1/5)

Inside of you there is a small Russian liberal who demands recognition for doing the bare minimum, demands being sheltered from the consequences of our government's actions, and thinks everyone else is just as bad as us You need to strangle that voice in your head if you want to keep your dignity.

The WSJ is reporting that China is already talking to and working with the Kremlin insiders that they expect to take over Russia once Putin is dead. China does not expect Putin to hold on to power much longer.

Kind of annoying that the commentary team think all the French players suddenly lost form rather than Spain coming up with a system that neutralised them.

SpaceX (with twitter being a subsidiary) is actively engaged in a low intensity insurrection within the US and in several treaty allies. They are promising openly to escalate. There are capital crimes being committed in broad daylight. We should stop acting as if this is not the case

As I said a long time ago, we saw peak tariff last year. From now on there will be fiddling around trying to protect particular bits of the economy and somewhat half-assed/half-arsed attempts to do coercion. The big tariff war has de-escalated, and Trump was not the winner.

In that kind of atmosphere, where the well has unfortunately been poisoned, I do think there are plenty of ways where a certain contempt for the concerns of American allies and a resentment of any continued efforts to hedge against the US could durably take hold across the political spectrum.

You're 9 minutes into your Chotiner interview. He's smiling. By God, it's going well. Great, even. Then he says "but". You wake up coughing through thick smoke partially buried by rubble. Your ears are ringing. The interview is already published. You have 390 missed calls from your boss.

The single, overaching aim of European (security) policy should be that the ramblings of Trump no longer matter. Only by fully taking responsibility for its own security can European take away this power and shrug off the recycling of threats.

Mel Brooks's Army unit captured Field Marshal von Runstedt's HQ. Mel wandered the castle, went to VR's rooms, found a full uniform there. He put it on - leather coat, everything - then went to the pub. 'Cognac, bitte.' He was 19. Of course everyone panicked. 'Von Runstedt ist hier!'
