I love reading because it's such a beautiful way to connect with the creator and others via just our collective imagination. The community can be so beautiful at it's core, which is probably why there's a push from those in power, especially in the US, to ban books. That's a whole different convo.

I find it unveils a world right inside my head. Occasionally I get that from a great radio drama, but a good book is always contained within you while you're reading, and sometimes it's vast. I think that's what people like Andrew tate find so uncomfortable about it.

Oh, good one! ...reading makes me see the world in ways I could never have learned of otherwise, has forced me out of my comfort zone & broadened my views; it instantly sets my stress levels back to zero; and it feels like I'm connecting to one of humanity's oldest cultural acts: storytelling 🗨️

When I read, I feel such a deep connection to the story being told. Much more than in things like movies or tv shows, it often feels like it’s an essential part of myself that’s interacting with the book. Reading has made me a deeper thinker and feeler, and I love it for that.

What do you love about reading/books? What's something you only get from reading (a feeling, a deeper appreciation of something beyond yourself, etc)? What's a way in which reading has challenged you? (apparently I'm doing SFFChat before SFFChat, but I need the book positivity)

I dunno if readers want to deprive themselves the pleasure of prodding and thinking at this unique piece of story structure that is their decision but I start from the idea that writers do what they do with purpose (bc I sure overthinking a lot of what I do LOL)

I've got to say, I'm fed the fuck up with people in book spaces who seem to hate books and engage with books in the most begrudging way possible

Booktok is basically an online social circle of people who hate reading but believe the number of books you've read is the ultimate signifier of your intellect and social status, which is why you have a cluster of people declaring war on literacy but who still want to be seen as voracious readers.
