The Tea Party's biggest distributed event was on tax day 2009, with 750 modestly attended protests. No Kings had 2,600. Its biggest single gathering was on 9/12/09 in DC, with somewhere between 75K and a few 100K participants. No Kings had 5-7 million. So: No Kings dwarfs the Tea Party. [2/3]

This is precisely the kind of government coercion that the First Amendment was designed to prevent — and media companies need to start standing up rather than capitulating to it.

After years of complaining about cancel culture, the current administration has taken it to a new and dangerous level by routinely threatening regulatory action against media companies unless they muzzle or fire reporters and commentators it doesn’t like.

These guys are unpopular and dumb as rocks, they did not discover a secret 'I win' button at the heart of all politics labeled 'mean tweets' or 'cancel elections.' Keep speaking, keep writing, keep marching, keep voting, force them to show the country what they are.

In North Carolina right now the Democrat running for Senate - in a state Trump won *three times* (I hate it too) - is leading by 6-8 points. 'Oh, but they'll cancel elections' - then force them to cancel elections and radicalize the normies and then march with the radicalized normies.

In short, force them to try to rule by naked force because they *do not* have enough force and the very nakedness of it will mean they have less and less. The Civil Rights movement overcame far more with far less, if we had a fraction of their courage, we'll win.

We're already seeing grand juries refuse to indict and regular juries refuse to convict because of their shoddy evidence and transparent political aims. Keep doing that. More protests are planned, another No Kings rally on October 18. Go, be present, be seen, do not let them manufacture consent.

If they want to shut down dissent in the legacy media, go to new media. They'll try to crack down on liberal advocacy groups - fight them in the courts. They're already short on lawyers and they can't take every case to SCOTUS.

Pardon me, but while MAGA and Trump may want to use it that way, we don't need to let them. I think it is absolutely the case that Trump aspires to be something like a fascist dictator, I said so last October. But we are not powerless and they have not won yet.

The last political column I was allowed to write in the @washingtonpost.com was a criticism of Obama. His people took issue with my piece, but we were respectful. Now he is tweeting in support of me. This is how free political speech and respect for debate *actually works*. Or used to work.

The @newrepublic.com actually does very useful and helpful REPORTING. How about @propublica.org? Excellent. The @51st.news is doing excellent actual reporting. So is @thetriibe.com in Chicago. There are so many other places to get actual useful news.
