Although apologists for the state claim that strong, centralized government is necessary to prevent “chaos” and ethnic violence, in Syria, we see the opposite occurring: those who aim to centralize state power in their hands are using ethnic violence as a means to do so.

Lots of folks saying “this is good” but no, it very much is not. 1) this is the 4th amendment 2) this is a historical norm at worst 3) this is already required 4) again, at worst an historic norm 5) 4A 6) 4A 7) fine 8) good if enforceable 9) useless 10) again, at worst a historical norm

It really bums me out that Klobuchar, who was instrumental in normalizing Trump as just another political adversary, is almost certainly going to be the next governor of Minnesota, a state currently paying a severe price for that normalization of fascism.

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

really tired of seeing claims that our illegal kidnapping of the Venezuelan president is to "distract" us from the Epstein files. Trump and the men around him have wanted this for a long time. this is a bad thing in its own right, not some attempt to hide from accountability

Screaming "wtf" and waiting for a spontaneous uprising is going to discourage you. There won't be a spontaneous uprising. That's just not where the people are at. Organize for the long term. Build community. Build resilience. Have a strategy for whatever corner of this thing you're working on.

You get nowhere arguing with transphobes about the safety of puberty blockers, or about social transition. They don't care that they're wrong, and they don't care that they're lying. They want to wipe out trans adults, and one way to do that is by attacking trans kids. All we can do is stop them.

I have been following national Congressional politics since I was a teenager in Obama I. This is how it always works. Regardless of their actual seat totals, The Democrats "somehow" always have just enough moderates (not too many or too little) that they concede to the GOP on every major issue.

Thinking about the 1969 Piazza Fontana bombing and how Italy's security services blamed it on anarchists, arrested nearly 100 activists and threw one of them out the 4th floor window of the police station. The bombing was carried out by a neo-fascist group with ties to the state security services.

I understand how people get so disgusted with guns they just say "ban them all", but that's not a workable policy proposal in the US. if you want regulation then you'd better have people writing those regulations who understand what a firearm is- in a technical and a legal sense.
