I went to some panels with 30+ year artists and ADs in the book cover industry and two of the main take-aways was: Never, EVER associate yourself with genai. It WILL weaken you. Authors; Always tag your cover artists, it will give your book more authenticity that you work with real artists.

What is something that is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders? Illustration pay has not kept up with inflation. We get paid approximately the same dollar amount as an illustrator in the early 2000s. Some of the big companies are the worst for this.

idea for someone near me to steal: IKEA Pick-n-Pull. It's like an indoor junkyard but only for IKEA furniture. IKEA as-is section is useless when all I need is a small piece that broke off something, or a section of couch, or a single piece of hardware etc.

I can relate to AI in the way that I too don’t draw details in the places I don’t think anyone is really looking.

New trek (minus LD) is so defanged. DS9’s politics are somehow still relevant today while new Trek barely has the strength of its convictions. And don’t come at me with diverse casting, it’s not enough. Fucking SAY SOMETHING.

The fascination with AI boils down to “I can’t believe IT made that,” vs “I can’t believe I made that”. We’re impressed a piece of technology put something together not that it’s necessarily creative.
