Submission fees are garbage. Always. Yes, even then. Garbage. A publication that has monetized its submission pile isn't going to be terribly motivated to develop a readership. So if a place tries to justify submission fees with, "Oh, but think of the exposure you'll get!" be very, very skeptical.

There's a word that's woefully underused to describe a certain type of poster who's common on Facebook, Nextdoor, etc. Coprolite. It's the scientific word for an old, fossilized piece of shit. Usage: "A coprolite popped up to say that if we really had a king, we wouldn't be allowed to protest."
