ICE's occupation in Minneapolis has affected everyone that lives there, and today on SKTCHD, I wrote about what it's like for comic creators in the area, and how they're using their art to tell the story of the city from their perspectives.

This is a pretty common one, but Don't treat your fellow artists like competition. Not only is it just awesome getting to participate in art communities, but people are more likely to throw jobs your way if they think you would do the same for them 🤝

You don't have to bust your ass to do a good job. My harshest teacher in art school gave me an A+ for an assignment I finished in 20 minutes. As long as it looks good, nobody cares how it got made. No, I don't condone the use of generative AI or other forms of plagiarism.

Editors absolutely want to know about new great letterers and colorists. When I edited anthologies I wanted to hire as many colorists and letterers as I had stories so I could work with as many different creators and try as many creator pairings/combinations as possible.

Comics writers and artists — please request your favorite colorists and letterers when working on a new project with a publisher. Can’t hurt to ask. (And if you don’t really care who letters/colors your work…that’s disappointing on a lot of levels.)
