There's been absolutely no public hearing on this bill, no chance for D.C. residents to weigh in on whether it should be left to their elected officials to determine tax policy or unaccountable members of Congress. (The bill was quietly introduced on January 22.)

This makes the post-9/11 NSA warrantless surveillance program look like digging through people's trash (which the FBI also did). That caused such a backlash there was still congressional activity on it a decade later. This is absolutely blood-chilling levels of state overreach and so far crickets.

Teaching exercise that is helpful with my policy students. Based on the solution, hiring this fella to a fancy position and giving him $$$ in this environment, what is the root of skepticism with higher ed that Yale is attempting to solve? Whose skepticism do they seek to assuage?

In 2023, mean hourly salary for home health & personal care attendants in the US was $16.05, per BLS. Meanwhile, private equity has been buying up home health agencies. What exactly is driving those costs up then?

I have been of the opinion for about five years now that we are all mostly clinging to the *idea* of social media. But that it has not existed, as we mean it, since Jack sold Twitter. The minute capital lined up to fold social media into its technocratic political consolidation, it stopped existing.

Scrolling through the photos of Pam Bondi's "Minnesota rioters," it's just hero after hero. Every photo includes a cowardly DHS agent with their back to the camera. Bondi thinks she's going to win the propaganda war with this shit, but it's never been more clear that they're losing.

Publishers have been milking public libraries for all they can, while painting them as thieves--meanwhile, amazon screwing publishers (and of course, small presses and indie authors) over for all they're worth, yet publishers just go along with Bezos. Fucking baffling.
