Hey #boardgamesky! I'm looking for examples of /weird/ board games. Games that do something you don't expect games to do, whether theme, mechanic, player experience/emotion, or other surprises. Bonus points for being cheap, recent and/or quick to play, but none of these are essential.

Had a solid playtest of Hench, but folks tend to not do very much negotiation, even as I've been cranking the dial on that. Might experiment with cutting that whole system (maybe except for the liar)

The next batch of New Mill preorders are set to launch a week from tomorrow. It feels so soon after I sent out the July preorders, but that was because I delayed a month due to those pesky tariff issues. However, for scheduling reasons, I need to still launch Oct. 1. So...get hyped!

One of my best design memories happened at Spiel. My daughter and I had designed Hungry Monkey together, a small card game based on the Swedish traditional game Skitgubbe (Sh*thead in English). We loved it as our little family game, so when HeidelBÄR decided to publish it, I was over the moon. 🎲✂️🧵

I just sent a PnP version of Craters to the publisher that has offered me an optional agreement on the game for the past months. It is time for a decision. I will know before the end of September if they will take the game or not. 🎲✂️

I will edit my rulebook of Craters tonight. it was written a couple of iterations ago. When you do the same thing, how do you make sure that you catch all the updates since the last rulebook iteration? 🎲✂️

Now I send Craters to the publisher with an optional agreement. Will it fit their catalogue or not? If yes, I’m happy to have signed a game with one of my grail publishers. If no, they have helped me strengthen Craters and I have a really strong game to pitch at Spiel. This mindset helps me. 🎲✂️

Love these threads. I'm still most proud of my first published design, Bable. I'm proud how it models the story of the confusion of tongues into an experiential design. It's a cooperative game that places the focus on the communication difficulties rather than on the construction of the tower.

Oh, you asked for it. Pyrotechnics! The design is by @backwardscapgames.bsky.social but I've had lots of fun developing and producing it. Playtesting has also been a joy, watching folks enjoy the game. I'm proud of Michael for the game, and proud of the whole team for the work that's been done.

Venusian Vegas will be my first game to graduate from prototype to product when I bring it to the paxu indie games night market (thanks @dnlnwmn.bsky.social !) And my pride jumped a notch when my daughter agreed to do the character art. boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/45...

I am proud of Rex Regnat. It's a 2 or 4 player game about the Polish Constitution of 1791, using modified trick-taking to represent debate.
