The "well akshually" answer is neither - name pronunciation in Japanese has to do more with pitch/tone than with emphasizing certain syllables. I'd have to hear the BBC announcer's version before rendering judgement, but I think YAmada would sound closer to 'natural' than YaMAda in this context.
