Cities and Memory

This was the tenth year of Cities and Memory, and I’m enormously proud to look back at the amazing things that happened this year, and hugely thankful to everyone who helped to make it possible - especially the wonderful artists who make up our global community 💕🎧

I keep thinking about this. I was talking to a journalist friend about Project 2025, and he was saying how so much of it is being executed with frightening efficiency. And it is all the more frustrating because everyone with the power to stop it was so thoroughly and repeatedly warned.

I try to record a Halloween song every year and, this year, you can hear me cover one of the unsettlingly horny folk songs from 'The Wicker Man' (there *is* an audience for that, right?)

Autism is not a disease. You can’t cure autism. "Some people don’t care what we want. They want a cure for autism, and they spend a lot of time and money looking for it. This is bad for autistic people. People should spend time and money helping us live good lives." Words by

its funny to be ruled by internet-brained idiots like this, when anyone with a passing familiarity of this internet political moment knew instinctively this was going to be an incoherent brain rotted gamer white boy who sees politics and violence as entertainment

Weird fiction
Films that capture the sense of uncanny unresolved bewilderment that marks weird fiction, as opposed to more linear ghost stories or horror movies. Nightmare logic is another way of expressing it.

It's a little reported upon bit of music fact but it's interesting how many of the "90s bands going big on TikTok" (yr Slowdives, yr assorted American slowcore bands) are the sort of bands that were pretty big on the old mp3 blogs

Anyone who pays the least attention to what he's been posting and doing over the last few years can immediately see that he's motivated entirely by bitterness, hatred, and is just frankly really unwell. Framing him as anything other than pitiable and contemptable is just totally irresponsible afaic

you see this basic dynamic all over, where the right identifies a real issue and exploits it in bad faith, and then dupes in media and politics take them at their word, as if they are sincerely concerned about the problem and offering solutions.
