It’s been a great start to the year out canvsssing with Castle and West Chesterton! It’s game in for the local elections in May. The Liberal Democrats will be offering a bold and positive vision for our city, a clear alternative to Labour’s cuts at the Guildhall and in Westminster.

A glossy A3 leaflet arrives from Arbury Liberal Democrats, with lots of local content promoting Fionna Tod, who is clearly their candidate for the May elections. Arbury has been a safe seat for Labour for many years, but perhaps the Lib Dems are feeling optimistic this year.

Why is Labour giving Trump a free pass to break international law? We know what happens when US Presidents launch illegal wars. It’s why the Liberal Democrats opposed the Iraq War and it’s why we condemn Trump’s law-breaking in Venezuela today.

This year has shown the real impact of practical, values-led policy to deliver change across the country and in our communities.

Some honesty is needed about what the flags being put up around England are about. The march in London this weekend with known fascists like Tommy Robinson show that it’s not about patriotism, it’s about exclusion, hatred, and racism. That’s not what Britain is about.

The war in Gaza must end. Since April, I’ve spoken on this issue nine times in the House of Commons. The government must do more to help bring an end to the conflict and to secure the safe release of all hostages. The war must stop.

Cambridgeshire's roads need resurfacing after a decade of underfunding by the last Conservative gvnt. £1.6 billion for road repairs across England is totally inadequate. In Cambs alone, there is a £600 million road repair backlog - & £12 million for Cambs is a drop in the ocean.

If you think this is being alarmist there are 100s of political scientists who work on authoritarian regimes who will affirm that this is whats happening.
