I tried to read Gideon the Ninth. Twice. Tapped out after ninety pages, mostly because the narrative was plodding and unfocused, the characters felt like unfinished sketches, and the plot had barely started by act two! Overall, it felt shallow and sloppy, like someone's first efforts at fanfiction.
