Lexington painted and extended their bike lane mass ave bike lane green! Green bike lane paint costs about 12 dollars a square foot sooo,, definitely a lot of money. But hey, good safety for intersections. Also added new blank out No Turn on Red, though the timing isn’t perfect on them.

Nice new signal separation installed by @jfh01.bsky.social ‘s team on Mass at Tremont. Felt a lot safer crossing, though that no turn on red sign maybe could use a new location as it’s blocked by the turn signal!

Not sure how I feel about blank out signs being used for signal separation, but maybe it’s okay? The red arrow honestly gets the same compliance as a no turn on red sign in Boston in my experience (despite having no legal meaning).

"Separated bike lanes reduce collisions and save lives." It's really that simple. The research is ample. But our leaders and, sadly, our neighbors have chosen to ignore all that to coddle drivers and protect parking. Deaths like those of John Corcoran and Minh-Thi Nguyen are policy choices.

Happy to see this new signal separation in Boston along Western. And guess what, the compliance is good! That’s what happens when signals are well designed. Putting the right turn signal directly over the turn lane helps a lot. Wish it had backplates though.

Asphalt and concrete are two different materials. They require different types of construction efforts. Completely different set up/preparation requirements. Forming for concrete would require complete removal of adjoining road base materials for room to work. Curbs are laid days/weeks prior.

Some new turn arrows at Alewife Brook Parkway and Broadway. Lead lag (with yellow trap 😳) on Alewife Brook Parkway, and split phase on Boston. Definitely reduces conflicts, but I am nervous about that yellow trap hazard!

Went for my first bike ride in a few weeks and remembered why i haven’t been biking. I got flipped off just for riding a bike and nearly right hooked by a driver w/o a blinker. We’ve got work to do.

The MUTCD requires that, but research shows that there are many instances before that requirement that worked without separation, including the NYC examples using Flashing Yellow Arrow. It’s a subject of debate that I would argue should be left to engineering judgment

New bike signal at West 29th Ave and Speer is live! I like it how it gives bikes a head start and then uses a yellow caution arrow for turning drivers instead of a green arrow.
