This week I've reached the inescapable part of early game development - the need to draw a whole bunch of trees and the rocks.

These high level executives are so cooked by LLMs their brains no longer work. It's probably the one role AI could replace without anyone noticing a decline in competency.

All of this is to say, if you want indies to keep making games, waiting for that 80% deep discount is going to make it very difficult. It’s also why I’ve never discounted Lamplight City more than 40% I know not everyone can afford to buy games at full price, but we’re also not charging $60.

For anyone wondering what sort of 'publisher' would actively sabotage a project like this mid-development - it's Microsoft.

Charlie Cleveland and co. are the heart of Unknown Worlds. For the entire leadership team to be kicked out in such an unceremonious way can only mean some ZA/UM levels of ratfucking has taken place. I'm really sorry to see this happen to yet another talented studio.

Attended a few talks recently, and the advice on funding / publisher support seems backwards to the consensus of even a few years ago. If publishers expect devs to take on all the risk before making a commitment, then what is the offer? What risk do they shoulder? Risk is part of the job, no?
