Bingo. I’ve subverted the norms, but never with the idea of being obstinate. Similarly, while I’ve had players who just wanted to be different (or difficult), I’ve had players who had an interesting, if off beat, idea. The key was recognizing a sincere effort at making their concept work.

Great thread. I got into the hobby with AD&D 2e and I loved the variety of the worlds and their differences. Dark Sun should FEEL different than Forgotten Realms which should feel different than Ravenloft and so forth.

Fantastic point. And I've watched TTRPG friends release non crowd funding items that people didn't buy because of no campaign, but then asked for those items to be included as add ons in other campaigns even though they were RIGHT THERE to buy. I genuinely don't begrude anyone using crowd funding.
