Rust, Rusty Bikes, and making everything safer. Berkeley, CA.
pinned post!
I just went to the Berkeley Transportation and Infrastructure Commission meeting to recount this story. That was hard. I barely kept it together. I hope I did Ben justice.

I bet all of these democratic senators that snapped, all had a grandkid calling to say, “I’m not coming to Thanksgiving because I don’t want to get stuck at the airport for three days.” And so they thought, hey, I know how to fix that!

Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer. He is a computer safety researcher. And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine. In under 1600 words.

My son wanted to go to the amusement park with his friends, so drove a bunch of kids to Six Flags, and honestly, this is what all cities should be. Walking promenades with trams running around, lots of vendors. Allowing cars on city streets was a mistake.

Me wondering if the plan is to return the entire country back to an agrarian society except for the uber wealthy. No trains, no planes, highways unfunded. News organizations gutted. Communications next. The only people who will be able to travel and talk over long distances will be the Oligarchs.

1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

folks, I've not been doing much with WASM in the last little bit. I want to build a WASM library for use primarily in a Javascript/Typescript environment. So this is not a 100% Rust environment. What are people recommending these days for that use case, Trunk or wasm-pack?

A family friend was telling us about what her husband shared about his experience in Broadview before he was deported back to Mexico. She's been sharing to friends and family because she's just in disbelief & horror what her husband told her. She wasn't able to talk to him until he was in Mexico.

Think about how the left told Biden, and then Kamala, that their campaign would 100% lose if they did the exact opposite of what Mamdani's would be. They literally plugged their ears and said shut the fuck up, and then she lost by doing the exact opposite, in every way on every issue, of Mamdani.

The car is the albatross around the neck of all Americans. It’s the one thing you can’t do without to participate in the economy in many places, yet it’s also the thing that consumes so much of your income and life that you are a chained to supporting it.

I'm pro-union because I think workers should organize to balance the power that business owners have in various negotiations. It's true that unions have been weakened, but it's not because of multiculturalism. I would argue, it's because people seek to exploit divisions for their material interests.
